Zagreb Deep Sea container terminal

According to the decision of the Government of the Republic of Croatia, the Zagreb Deep Sea container terminal was declared a strategic project of the Republic of Croatia and is the largest capital project of the Port of Rijeka Authority. The construction of the Phase 1 terminal was realized as part of a comprehensive and complex project financed by a World Bank loan officially named “Rijeka Gateway Project I and II”, including modernization of the port area and procurement of port equipment and construction of roads to the port of Rijeka.

On May 23, 2019, the works on the construction of the first phase of the Zagreb Deep Sea container terminal were completed. The completion of works on the new container terminal at the Zagreb port is also the completion of a comprehensive project for the reconstruction of the Rijeka traffic route, called the Rijeka Gateway project.

The container terminal will be connected by a new state road D-403 which connects the port of Rijeka, more precisely the Zagreb Deep Sea container terminal to the Škurinje junction which is under construction. In this way, the Zagreb Deep Sea container terminal will be connected to the network of Croatian motorways, ie to the main network of the TEN-T corridor. The length of the D403 road from the port of Rijeka (ZDSCT) to the Škurinje junction on the Rijeka bypass is approximately 3 km with a branch to connect to the city road network. At the same time, a connecting road of port area is being built, which will ensure traffic connection of the port area (general cargo terminal) in the Rijeka Basin with the state road D 403.

On 24 June 2021, the 165th session of the Management Board of the Port of Rijeka Authority was held, at which the Decision on granting a concession for the development and economic use of the Zagreb Deep Sea container terminal in the Port of Rijeka was adopted. The decision followed a successful concession procedure, which began on March 22, 2021 and ended on May 10, 2021, with the public opening of bids at the Port of Rijeka Authority. Pursuant to the Decision, the Port of Rijeka Authority grants a concession for the development and economic use of the Zagreb Deep Sea container terminal in the Port of Rijeka to the APM TERMINALS / ENNA LOGIC Consortium consisting of: APM TERMINALS B.V.
