Ground-breaking Ceremony for construction of the future Rijeka Gateway Terminal

    On September 13, 2023 a ceremony marking the beginning of the construction infrastructure for the future Rijeka Gateway Terminal was held at the Zagreb pier in the port of Rijeka. Rijeka Gateway Ltd., a concessionaire of the Port of Rijeka Authority, will invest EUR 380 million on the terminal’s construction and equipment on two phases. By the time the initial investment of roughly EUR 200 million in the first phase is finished, the terminal should be operational in 2025. A new 280-meter waterfront’s construction will cost an additional EUR 180 million during the second phase.
    With all container cranes being remote-controlled, the new Rijeka Gateway port will be the most cutting-edge container terminal in this region of Europe.
    A 50-year concession to run the terminal is held by the Rijeka Gateway Ltd., which is controlled by Maersk Group through APM Terminals and ENNA Naturalis Group through ENNA Logic.

    The concessionaire Rijeka Gateway Ltd. organised the ground-breaking ceremony, with the members of the management board of Rijeka Gateway d.o.o., the president of the management board Koen Benders and the member of the management board and financial director Tomislav Žunić, presenting the project and the specifics of the investment. On behalf of the owners, the guests were addressed by the president of Europe A.P. Moller-Maersk, Aymeric Chandavoine, and Zvonimir Novak, a director of business development of Energie Naturalis. The representative of the Government of the Republic of Croatia and a State Secretary in the Ministry of Sea, Transport and Infrastructure Josip Bilaver,  deputy Prefect of Primorsko – Goranska County Marina Medarić, the Mayor of the City of Rijeka Marko Filipović, also attended the ceremony.
    APM Terminals and ENNA Logic formed a joint venture to create Concessionaire Rijeka Gateway Ltd. APM Terminals is a subsidiary of A.P. Moller-Maersk, one of the four major container terminal operators in the world and an independent port operator. It oversees 76 terminals, including Rijeka Gateway Terminal. In the Consortium, the corporation holds a 51 percent share. The first private railway carrier and logistics firm in Croatia is called ENNA Logic, and it is a part of the ENNA group. In the Consortium, the corporation owns a 49% interest.
