Simulated tactical fire control exercise at the polar cruiser Scenic Eclipse

    On July 2, 2020, a fire control exercise was held on the polar cruiser Scenic Eclipse berthed at the Rijeka breakwater.

    Cruising tourism is one of the new phenomena in the tourist services around the world and has the impact on the economy and destination development. Cruise companies have recognized the potential of Rijeka port as a destination, and consequently, 12 leading global cruise companies announced arrival of their ships at the beginning of the year 2020. In addition to the basic factors that determine the competitiveness of destination nautical tourism, safety and security have recently emerged as a cruscial factor of choice by cruise companies or tourists.

    The neccesity for better security implies good cooperation between stakeholders in the tourism sector and those involved in security. With this intention, an exercise was initiated by the Public Fire Brigade of the City of Rijeka, in cooperation with the crew of the ship Scenic Eclipse, representatives of the Port of Rijeka Authority of Rijeka, Harbourmasters’ office in Rijeka, companies Dezinsekcija ltd., Jadransko pomorski servis j.s.c., Port of Rijeka j.s.c., Croatia Pilot ltd., SECURITAS ltd., Institute of Emergency Medicine of Primorje- Gorski kotar county and PU-PG Maritime and Airport police station demonstrated together the capabilities and capacities of the exercise participants and pointed out weaknesses and opportunities for further improvement in order to verify the safety of the ship’s stay in the port.
