The project includes studies and construction works for the installation of an onshore power supply (OPS) system at two container terminals in the Port of Rijeka.
The overall objective of the project is to upgrade the Adriatic Gate Container Terminal and the Rijeka Gateway Container Terminal to enable the use of onshore power supply for berthed container vessels. Both terminals provide cargo transshipment between three modes of transport: maritime, rail, and road.
The project has significant environmental benefits, as it will reduce noise pollution and air emissions from ships while they are berthed in the port. With the implementation o this project, the Port of Rijeka will become one of the few ports in Europe offering onshore power supply services to container vessels. The project is fully aligned with Regulation (EU) 2023/1804, which promotes and requires the deployment of onshore electricity supply infrastructure in EU seaports.
Project Activities
Preparation of detailed designs and technical specifications, including obtaining all necessary permits for the installation and safe operation of the equipment required for onshore power supply at the Adriatic Gate Container Terminal and the Rijeka Gateway Container Terminal.
Procurement and installation of the equipment required for the onshore power supply system at the Adriatic Gate Container Terminal and the Rijeka Gateway Container Terminal.
Commissioning of the onshore power supply systems at the Adriatic Gate Container Terminal and the Rijeka Gateway Container Terminal.
Planned Infrastructure
Two onshore power supply connection points, each with a capacity of 5 MVA, or alternatively one connection point with a capacity of 7.5 MVA, for container vessels berthed at the Adriatic Gate Container Terminal.
One onshore power supply connection point with a capacity of 7.5 MVA for container vessels berthed at the Rijeka Gateway Container Terminal.
